Week 6 - Still Life

This week we moved on to still life, we had to focus on drawing a placement of objects on a surface, we had to take into account the objects position on the surface and make sure that objects didn't kiss each other and also that the proportion of each object is correct in comparison to each other.

I started with a quick two minute sketch to get a good sense on the composition of the objects on the table, this sketch shows a good sense of proportion of each object and also the positioning of the objects on the table. This sketch uses smooth, rounded, curved lines to show the shape and curve of each object.

My second sketch was another composition sketch but this time it was some different objects this sketch in a improvement because none of the objects are kissing and also the they are all in proportion and the ellipses are improved and have no points on them. This sketch also shows the relationship between the objects and the surface they are placed on.
This is one of my still life sketch's that I set up at home, it consists of three candles placed on a table with chair in the background. This 10 minute sketch shows how each object is positioned next to each other and also how they sit on the table, this sketch gives a good sense of proportion and placement.

This sketch uses the big candle as its focal point and draws the eyes towards it, the perspective of this sketch is close up and the positioning of the chair and table give the sketch a 3D effect. The amount of detail included in this sketch makes it easy to see what each object is and also the material they are made of, the big candle is wood and the smaller ones are clear glass.

This is another still life sketch I set up in my house, this one is of  the big wooden candle and also a small glass cup. This sketch looks at the objects in more detail and picks up on the candles wood texture and shading, also attention has been paid to the detail on the surface that the objects are sitting on and the way in which these objects are positioned on the table.

There is good proportion in the sketch with the size of the candle compared to the size of the glass and also the length of the table they are sitting on.  Its is easy to see the relationship between these two objects in this sketch.

This last sketch is a 10 minute still life sketch of a lantern and a glass candle, this drawing focuses on the shading on each object and also the different materials seen in the sketch. The shading makes it easier to see the difference between the different materials on the lamp and on the the table the objects are resting on. The table is made of wood and you can see the grain in the sketch and also there is a mat on the table which the object are sitting partly on.

Lighter and darker shading helps to see the where the light is hitting these objects and also the darkness in colour in the different materials on both objects. The proportions are good in this sketch and the sizes are correct.
