Week 4 - Light and Shadow

In week four we focused on light and shadow, we focused on directional light and also the shadows that these lights cast on objects like the chairs and cloth seen in the sketch above. This sketch is a 45 minute sketch of a few chairs and tables with a cloth draped over them and the a number of different lights shone on to the scene to create shadow.

This sketch shows a great deal of depth in terms of the amount of shading and also the positioning of the vertical lines which form the chair legs which make this sketch look three dimensional, the use of different shading technique's gives the sketch life and light. The use of both thick and thin lines help to determine between different materials in the sketch and also the the lighter and darker sections.
This second drawing was a quicker 15 minute sketch that was done on the same chair and table set up but on another side of it. The use of curved lines in this sketch make the cloth look soft and also shows the greases seen in the sketch, the use of different shading techniques helps to differentiate between the lighter and darker shadows in this sketch. The darker lines show the darker folds in the cloth and also the dark gaps between the chair and cloth.
